I still live in Algona, IA, where my husband and I settled right after college. My husband, Kevin, is the chief of police and I am the director/founder of Great Minds Learning Center, which is kind of like a Sylvan Learning Center, except we're independent. I started it as Algona Learning Center five years ago, and became a non-profit organization two years ago and changed the name to Great Minds Learning Center, in case we expanded to other communities. It was hard to leave my job at the area education agency, where I'd been a speech pathologist for 22 years, but I was getting burned out with their paperwork and bureaucracy stuff, so the time seemed right to do something else. I love what I'm doing now - (I especially like being my own boss)-but it is a heck of a lot of work! Anyway, that is what I'm up to work-wise. Kevin and I have three kids - Nicole, 22, who is in nursing school at Minnesota State University, Scott, 20, who is a junior at UNI, majoring in industrial technology (he'll be what was called a "shop" teacher in our day), and Katie Jo is 17, and will be a senior in high school this year.
